Indictment of Shaukat Yousafzai, others deferred

MINGORA/ALPURI: Former provincial minister and leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Shaukat Yousafzai and other party workers who were named in the February 09 tragedy, on Monday appeared before the anti-terrorism court, however, the charges could not be framed against them due to incomplete challan.

Lawyers and PTI activists from Shangla and Swat also appeared in the court. After brief arguments, the ATC judge adjourned the hearing for an indefinite period.PTI local workers Syed Farin, Waqar Ahmad Khan and others also appeared before the court.

On February 9, two political activists were killed and several injured in a firing incident in Shangla. The police had registered cases of alleged murder, and terrorism against the PTI leaders and workers.

The indictment of the accused could not take place as the judge of the anti-terrorism court adjourned the proceedings after a brief hearing when the public prosecutor said the Shangla Police had not completed the challan as they were investigating the incident. At this, the court sent the case file back to the police and directed it to submit the challan at the next hearing and adjourned the proceedings.
