Lawyer granted bail in rigging allegation case

PESHAWAR: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Saeed Amjad, on Monday granted interim bail to a lawyer, Ali Zaman Advocate, who was charged with accusing a woman returning officer of changing the election result.

The court directed the police to produce the record of the case on May 28. It stopped the police from arresting the accused.According to the prosecution, one Dr Abdul Qadeer had reported to the police that his wife Sumaira Saba was serving as returning officer, PK-73, in the last general election.

The complainant said that Ali Zaman was running the election from the said constituency of the provincial assembly.He said that the candidate had accused his wife, who was serving as returning officer, of changing the election result.The police had registered a case against Ali Zaman under the relevant sections of the law.The accused had filed an application to seek the interim bail to avoid arrest in the case.
