Chained girl recovered in Mansehra police raid

MANSEHRA: The police claimed to have recovered a 19-year-old girl before she could be killed by her family in the name of honour in Bajna Shar area here.

“We have recovered the girl chained in a room of her house before her family could kill her on the suspicion of having relations with a boy,” District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur told reporters on Sunday.

A police party raided a house in Bajna Shar area in the jurisdiction of Khaki Police Station. The cops recovered the girl chained to a pillar in a room of her home and arrested her father Azizur Rehman and uncle Mohammad Sajid.

The police produced the girl before a local court amid tight security which sent her to Darul Aman in protective custody.The court sent the accused to jail on judicial remand.

“My family wanted to kill me and the boy. My uncle had given me a cellphone to ask the boy to come to my home but I phoned the police for help,” the FIR quoted the girl as saying.“I was chained to a pillar. My family would have killed me had the police not rescued me,” she stated in the FIR.The DPO said that Mohammad Hammad, stated to be the brother of the girl, had tortured and threatened the girl with death threats.
