MARDAN: Serious differences have surfaced within the Awami National Party (ANP)’s Mardan chapter, leading to the resignation of Qaiser Ali Durrani, the newly elected general secretary of the urban tehsil.
Durrani announced his departure from the party office and basic membership, opting instead to spearhead a movement under the banner of Abdali Qaumi Ittihad.Addressing a press conference at the Mardan Press Club, Durrani criticised the ANP, labeling it as a “Rajwara” rather than a political party. He cited the recent general election defeat as a primary cause of internal discord, lamenting weak leadership and a lack of decision-making power among party leaders. Durrani expressed frustration over unresolved grievances among party workers and a failure to foster unity and agreement.
After 15 years of dedicated service to the party ideology, Durrani claimed victory in recent intra-party elections despite facing opposition from certain leaders. He emphasised his belief in divine support, stating that he could no longer continue with the party and announced his resignation from the general secretary position, TRC Chairman seat, and basic membership of ANP.
