LALAMUSA: Despite the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) preparing for nationwide rallies against the arrest of its leader and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, Gujrat remained peaceful on Thursday.

The city stayed tranquil as planned protests were unable to take place due to heavy police presence strategically positioned to prevent any potential disturbances. In anticipation of the PTI protest call, Gujrat saw an increase in law enforcement personnel with several police vans and officers stationed outside the residences of party leaders and their offices. However, despite the heightened security, no arrests were made, maintaining a tense but non-confrontational atmosphere throughout the district.

According to police sources, over 3,000 officers were placed across various locations within Gujrat to prevent any untoward incidents. It is important to note that May 9 marks a tumultuous chapter in Pakistani politics with the arrest of cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan on the same day last year, leading to a prolonged political crisis.
