MANSEHRA: The police on Thursday arrested a man on the charges of molesting a seven-year-old girl in the Garhi Habibullah area in the district.
“We have taken the victim to hospital after her condition deteriorated, and her medico-legal report confirmed she was sexually assaulted,” District Police Officer Shafiullah Gandapur told reporters here.
The girl, whose father is a labour and settled in Karachi, was taken to one of the rooms of an under-construction building on the second floor of her house as she arrived after attending a seminary in a nearby locality. “The accused, who is in his late 60s, handed over Rs50 to the girl and took her to a room and sexually assaulted her and his inhuman act is also confirmed by the medical report,” Gandapur said.
He added that a police party led by the DSP Garhi Habibullah raided a house and arrested the accused who confessed to his crime during the preliminary investigation.“The incident took place on Sunday, and the mother of the victim girl lodged the FIR with the police on Tuesday,” the official said. He added that the mother of the girl was reluctant to lodge the FIR fearing damage to her family’s honour but her husband compelled her to go to the police station.“The accused had also made three attempts earlier to assault her,” the official said.
The FIR of the incident is lodged by the police under sections 376 and 511 of PPC and section 53 of the Child Protection and Welfare Act.Meanwhile, the Victim Support Services team also met the victim girl and started her counselling and psychological therapy.
