Petitions by losing candidates: Notices issued to ECP, others

PESHAWAR: Two election tribunals of the Peshawar High Court (PHC) issued notices to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and other respondents on petitions challenging the victories of the candidates in national and provincial assembly constituencies.

The election tribunals headed by Justice Shakeel Ahmad and Justice Wiqar Ahmad heard the petitions filed by Malik Shahab, Muhammad Asim, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, Kamran Bangash, Arbab Jahandad, Sajid Nawaz, Mahmood Jan, Abbas Afridi, Amjad Afridi, Ali Zaman, Imran Khan and Hamidul Haq.

Shumail Ahmad Butt, Ali Gohar Durrani, Ali Azeem and Imtiaz Ali representing the petitioners told the election tribunals that the district returning officers and returning officers changed the election results during the February 8 general elections.

They claimed that unsuccessful candidates were declared victorious. The lawyers said that their clients possessed original Forms-45 according to which they were winning but were made to lose as per Forms-47.The election tribunals issued notices to the ECP and other parties after hearing the preliminary arguments.
