Due to alleged negligence of the Municipal Committee (MC) administrative officers and engineers concerned, the mega project that was launched in the tenure of the Punjab caretaker government to improve the old sewerage system of the city localities was still incomplete even though huge public funds had been released for this purpose. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Umair expressed dissatisfaction during a meeting held to review the progress of the mega project of upgrading the sewerage system of the city. He directed the MC administrator, chief officer and engineers instead of showing the progress through a multimedia presentation they should ensure completion of the project at ground level as the citizens problems had started increasing in this regard.

Sources revealed that to improve the old damaged sewage systems of Jhang Sadar, City and Satellite Town localities, a mega development project was launched under the Punjab Cities Programme last year. However, due to the digging of streets and roads, dirty sewage water had started entering the houses and shops of the localities making citizens lives miserable. Residents complain that not only the delay in replacing the damaged sewer lines but also the construction of commercial plazas and buildings without proper drainage systems and their level above the road level was increasing the city’s sewage problems.
