Councillors demand relocation of LG office to Waziristan

WANA: The Wana Councilors Alliance staged a protest outside the office of assistant director local government department on Thursday claiming that their problems remained unsolved as the office often remains locked.

Sahib Khan, president of the alliance, stated that the assistant director office was situated 160 kilometres away in Tank district.

Ahmad Khan, the vice-president, said Assistant Director Sayed Anwar was in charge of two districts, i.e. Lower and Upper South Waziristan, and his office is situated in Tank district.He added that the official should perform his duty for 15 days in Lower South Waziristan and another 15 days in Upper South Waziristan.

The alliance asserted that the protest would continue until the assistant director fulfilled his duties adequately.The alliance demanded the provincial government to transfer the assistant director from the area.

When contacted, Assistant Director Sayed Anwar stated: “This is an issue between village secretaries and village chairmen, and we have nothing to do with it.”He said that he was accompanying his father, who has been ill and under treatment in Islamabad.“Negotiations of our office staff with the councilors’ alliance are ongoing. We hope that a positive solution will emerge,” he added.
