Two men receive jail terms for killing wives

NOWSHERA: Two men were sentenced to imprisonment and fines for killing their wives in separate cases in the district.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Tayyab Khan sentenced a man to life imprisonment for wife’s murder. The judge also imposed a fine of Rs500,000 for the affected family. Failure to pay the fine would result in an additional six months of incarceration.

The incident occurred two years ago when Sumera died by hanging and her husband Gulrez Khan was accused of perpetrating the murder.The case, filed by Ayesha on April 1, 2022, implicated Gulrez Khan in the crime.

On the basis of witnesses’ testimonies, evidence, and proofs presented during the trial, the judge sentenced Gulrez to life in prison and an additional six-month sentence in case he fails to pay the fine.

Meanwhile, Additional District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Asif Khan sentenced another man to death and Rs1 million fine for killing his wife.The incident, occurring three years ago, involved the accused, Janas, allegedly slitting the throat of his wife Zahida Bibi.Janas was found guilty of the violence resulting in his wife’s murder.
