DIK police launch search operation after blast

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: An improvised explosive device planted by suspected militants on Kiri Shamozai Road exploded in the jurisdiction of Khoi Bahara Police Station on Monday.

Residents said that suspected militants had planted an IED on Kiri Shamozai Road, which went off with a big bang. However, the explosion caused no loss of life or damage to property.Soon after the explosion, the personnel of police and the Bomb Disposal Unit rushed to the spot and collected evidence from the crime scene. The police cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to apprehend the perpetrators. It may be mentioned that several terrorists equipped with sophisticated weapons had stormed the Chodwan Police Station for the second time recently.

The terrorists armed with the latest weapons had attacked the Chodwan Police Station and opened fire on the building in the dead of night. However, the timely action of police and armed lashkar of local people repulsed the attack.

Earlier, at least 10 cops had been martyred and six others had sustained injuries in a late-night attack on the Chodwan Police Station in Dera Ismail Khan before the general elections.More than 30 terrorists had launched an attack from three directions and there was an exchange of fire for over two-and-a-half hours. The attackers had also briefly seized control of the police station during the assault.

Security concerns in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have risen as both provinces have witnessed multiple attacks over the past few days.According to an annual security report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies, Pakistan witnessed 1,524 violence-related fatalities and 1,463 injuries from 789 terror attacks and counter-terror operations in 2023 — marking a record six-year high.KP and Balochistan were the primary centres of violence, accounting for over 90 percent of all fatalities and 84pc of attacks, including incidents of terrorism and security forces operations.
