Violent protest: PHC grants bail to PTI leader

ALPURI: The Swat Circuit Bench of the Peshawar High Court on Tuesday granted bail to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Bisham Tehsil Council chairman Sadidur Rahman, who was recently arrested following a violent protest after general elections in Shangla.

The bench after hearing arguments of petitioner’s lawyer granted bail to Sadidur Rahman and ordered his immediate release. The police had arrested around two dozen PTI workers, who were protesting against alleged rigging in the general election in Alpuri.

The protest had turned violent and had left three people dead and several others injured.The police had nominated as many as 1,200 PTI workers after the gory incident. They were booked under various sections of the law.

The district magistrate had postponed till February 20 the hearing of the bail application of a PTI leader, Said Rahman, who was arrested under Section 3 of the Maintenance and Public Order Ordinance and had imprisoned him at the Peshawar Central Prison.
