HARIPUR: Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Syed Arshad Hussain on Saturday said the provincial government was going to launch quantum computing technology courses to enable
the youth to compete globally in the field of information technology.
He was speaking to the faculty and students of University of Haripur.
Terming it the first-ever project of the country, he said he was launching the project as his passion and the admissions would start from the current week.
He said that he had asked the vice-chancellors of the 34 universities of the province to allocate a major share of academic expertise to market based demands of quantum technology and offer IT-based short courses so that students could get better job offers before completion of the courses.
The chief minister declared Haripur and Abbottabad as a quantum valley.
He said that although his government’s top responsibility was to hand over power to the elected setup after election, he believed that the commitment to the cause of serving the people always brought about results in days that were usually achieved in years.
He said that he would not blame any previous government but the situation of prevailing joblessness was testimony to the failure of planning to produce skilled manpower, which was necessary for the progress.
About arresting joblessness, he said that every third person was unemployed but despite abundant opportunities abroad the country had failed to produce skilled manpower which was imperative for socio-economic development of societies.
He said that for creating new job opportunities abroad for the youth the caretaker government launched another ambitious plan of producing 500,000 skilled youths per annum to meet the demand of Europe and other countries.
The Chief Minister Taskforce was busy devising a strategy to design courses in line with modern needs and compatible with the job market so that the graduates of such courses could get job offers before their passing out, he added.
He said that buildings of schools in merged districts and other parts of KP were being utilized for imparting market-oriented training to the youths.
He said that the initiative would enable the maximum number of youth to get jobs in European countries, Korea, Japan and the Middle East where there was a great demand, but to start with the government has set a target of producing 500,000 skilled human resources that would be increased accordingly.
