ALPURI: The activists of various political parties on Saturday staged protests against the final delimitation of constituencies by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The activists of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Awami National Party, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl and other political parties staged the protest. The protesters belonged to Puran and Chakesar tehsils in the remote Shangla district.
The ECP recently issued the final list of the delimitations of constituencies. The PTI and other parties have expressed reservations over the recently concluded exercise and alleged that it would benefit a certain political party. They alleged that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Amir Muqam was behind it. Amir Muqam denied the allegation.
On Friday, PTI leaders at a press conference expressed reservations about the delimitation of the constituencies in Shangla and announced to move the court against it.
They said the delimitation of constituencies was not correct keeping in view the geography of the remote Shangla district. They had warned of moving the court of law besides mobilizing workers to stage a protest against it. The PTI leader had asked the Election Commission of Pakistan to take notice of the situation.
The protesters said that they would boycott the next general election slated for February 8 if the polls were held as per the recently conducted delimitation, adding that the Election Commission of Pakistan would be responsible for it.
