LANDIKOTAL: Twenty Afghan families residing in Landikotal left for Afghanistan via the Torkham border, officials said Thursday. Sources said that Afghan nationals living in various localities of Landikotal tehsil had been issued verbal notices a few weeks ago to leave the country. They were informed that those not holding identity cards would be deported if they failed to leave Pakistan.
The Landikotal administration officials said around 340 families had been residing in Landikotal for the past three decades. They said the government of Pakistan, as a goodwill gesture, extended stay for the Afghan Citizen Card (ACC) holders till December 31. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials said that 250,000 Afghans have so far left Pakistan in the past month.
