QWP activists protest imposition of Customs Act

BISHAM: The activists of the Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) on Friday staged a protest against the imposition of Customs Act in Malakand division and asked the government to reverse the decision.

The QWP activists gathered in Alpuri, the administrative headquarters of Shangla district, to stage the protest. The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the extension of Customs Act to Malakand division and its abolition.

District Chairman QWP Mutawwakil Khan Advocate was leading the protesters. The QWP provincial Joint Secretary Zamin Gul Khan and others spoke on the occasion.The speakers said that Malakand division was devastated by militancy and natural calamities and should be given a special package.

They asked the government to wave off the agricultural loans, rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure and announce mega uplift projects for Shangla district.They also demanded the early payment of compensations to the affectees of October 26 last year earthquake.

Meanwhile, the Awami National Party (ANP) convened an all parties conference of political leaders of Shangla district to discuss the situation on April 10. The meeting would be held in Chakdarra in Lower Dir district.
