CTD arrests suspect involved in ex-ISI director’s target killing

PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) during an action has arrested an alleged target killer involved in the recent murder of an intelligence officer in Hayatabad.

A CTD press release issued on Saturday said the target killer Mikael Mahmood was arrested during a raid in Hayatabad. He is from Akora Khattak. Police said they also recovered the motorcycle used in the attack. He is said to be a member of a banned outfit. Another accomplice of the accused, Haris Naseem, was arrested earlier. They were wanted in the murder of a former director of the Inter-Services Intelligence, Abdul Lateef. He was shot dead last month in Phase-VI of Hayatabad Township.

Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent of Police of Hayatabad Circle Hassan Afzal told reporters that the police had arrested two suspected terrorists from the posh township who were later shifted to an unknown place for interrogation. The official said the police recovered two 9mm pistols, two hand grenades and 2.5 kilogram explosives.
