Man dies in Upper Dir roof collapse incident
PESHAWAR: One person was killed and two others sustained injuries in roof collapse incident in Upper Dir district as fresh wave of heavy rain hit parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and tribal areas, with rain falling in Peshawar till the filing of this report Saturday night.
The roof of the house owned by Muhammad Nadeem collapsed due to rain in Gandgar area of Darora Union Council in Upper Dir. His three-year-old son was killed while his wife and another son sustained injuries.
In Swat, the landslides blocked the Mingora-Kalam road. Also, the rain water washed away small bridges in various villages disrupting routine life. The hills in Kalam and Malam Jaba received snowfall, intensifying the cold in the region.
Meanwhile, the weather remained cloudy in most parts of the region while rain thundershowers occurred at scattered places in the region and Peshawar received intermittent rain throughout the day on Saturday.
According to the Met Office in Peshawar, around 40 millimeters (mm) was recorded in Parachinar and a downpour of 50mm in Upper Dir.
Pattan received 35mm rain, Kalam 16mm, Chitral 15mm, Mirkhani 13mm, Malam Jabba 11mm, Bannu 8mm, Saidu Sharif 7mm, Drosh & Timergara received 6mm each, Balakot 5mm, Kohat 4mm, Peshawar 5mm while Kakul and Dera Ismail Khan received 2mm rain.
Some areas along the River Shah Alam, including Jahti Bala and Takhtabad areas in Peshawar, were hit by hailstorm. However, no measureable loss was observed to the standing crop of wheat in the areas hit by the calamity.
The Met Office has also predicted thundershower and strong gusty winds with isolated heavy rain and snowfall over the hills today (Sunday).
The areas which may receive rain today include Mardan, Swabi, Kohat, Hangu, Karak, Bannu Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Malakand, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Swat, Buner, Shangla, Chitral, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Kohistan, Battagram, Torghar, Mohmand, Bajaur, Kurram, Khyber, Orakzai, South and North Waziristan agencies.
