PESHAWAR: The lawyers here on Monday observed a black day against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council had given the call. The lawyers had worn black armbands to record their protest against the sacrilegious act.
In a statement, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council Vice Chairman Zar Badshah Khan and other office-bearers condemned the blasphemous act and criticized the Swedish government for allowing it to happpen.
They said that this act of blasphemy had hurt the sentiments of the Muslims.
The Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA) condemned the sacrilegious act in Sweden as well and demanded the government to sever diplomatic ties with Stockholm.
The association demanded that Pakistan should call back its ambassador from Stockholm.
PHCBA President Tariq Afridi said that it was a conspiracy to provoke the Muslims.
He said that the members of the lawyer community would boycott the court proceedings today (Tuesday) against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden and in Kalyas area of the Charsadda.
Meanwhile, the residents of Sarwarabad in Nauthia locality staged a protest outside the Peshawar Press Club.
They demanded the government to take steps to stop the occurrence of such acts in the future. They demanded strict punishment for the blasphemer to make him an example for others.
The protesters said the freedom of expression cannot be used as a pretext to hurt the feelings of the Muslims.
The lawyer community also staged a protest at Meezan Chowk in the Mardan city against the desecration of the Holy Quran.
The speakers said that Organisation of Islamic Cooperation should play its role in bringing an end to deplorable and unacceptable acts that hurt the feelings of the Muslims Ummah.
BATKHELA: The members of the lawyer community and employees of the judiciary staged a protest demonstration against the desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden.
The protest was staged on the call of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council.
Calling for the boycott of the Swedish products, they demanded the government to expel the Swedish ambassador from the country and shut down its embassy in Islamabad.
Chanting slogans against the Swedish government, the protesters held banners and placards inscribed with slogans condemning the sacrilegious act.
District Bar Association Malakand President Sherin Khan, General Secretary Inayatullah Khan and other office-bearers of the association addressed the protesters.
Similar protests and rallies were also staged in other parts of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
