US envoy opens renovated Lincoln’s Corner at IIU

Islamabad: US Ambassador to Pakistan David Hale on Thursday inaugurated the renovated Lincoln’s Corner at the International Islamic University (IIU).

IIU Rector Dr. Masoom Yasinzai and Acting President Dr. Bashir Khan were also in attendance during the ceremony as guests of honour.

The Lincoln’s Corner has been renovated and expanded having double space, modern technology and e-learning facilities.

It was established in 2006 and is one of 17 Lincoln’s Corners established in the countrywide universities.

The ambassador said Lincoln’s Corner at the IIU demonstrated the continued partnership between Pakistan and US and their shared commitment to fostering open dialogue through educational opportunities.

He said the two countries had agreed to expand mutual educational relations.

David Hale appreciated all the concerned for the efforts to make the US-Pakistan collaboration successful.

The IIU rector said that was a great opportunity for learning and collaboration between the IIU students and those of American universities.

“We look forward to seeing this continuing collaboration bear fruit,” he said.

Dr. Masoom also informed David Hale about inception, progress and current status of the IIU.

He said the university had earned the worldwide reputation as a leading institution of higher learning.

“Our university is providing peaceful milieu to its students. It has international linkages with many American and European universities and producing skilled manpower to serve the humanity at large,” he said.

The rector said the university always condemned the attitudes of violence and religious extremism. He admired the US support for the development of education and research in the country especially in the fields of energy and agriculture.
