Demo against excessive loadshedding

BAHAWALPUR: Locals of Satellite Town, One Unit Colony and Walled City on Wednesday staged a protest demonstration against excessive loadshedding.Citizens criticized the Mepco Bahawalpur circle authorities for indulging in outages at Sehr, Iftar and Taraveeh prayers timings.

 

Pemra show cause to channel for showing suicide scene

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to Geo Entertainment channel for airing ‘inappropriate content’ including ‘suicide scenes’ during its show and has ordered the channel to explain its position on June 21. According to the Pemra notification, Geo TV’s anchor Dr Amir Liaquat Hussain in his June 13 programme showed scenes ‘of a girl committing suicide’. The media regulatory body called for an explanation from Geo TV and questioned ‘why it should not ban the programme Inaam Ghar’.

 

PML-N to keep alliance with PPP of Sardar Khalid in AJK

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to continue its political alliance with Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) of Sardar Khalid Ibrahim in Azad Kashmir. Special Assistant to Prime Minister for Political Affairs Dr Syed Asif Saeed Kirmani has announced here Wednesday that the PML-N was interested to see Sardar Khalid Ibrahim in the Legislative Assembly (LA) of Azad Kashmir and maintaining its contact with his party.  Dr Kirmani has clarified that seat adjustment with Jamaat-e-Islami in Azad Kashmir was possible as it could be done on one seat each of technocrat and Valley. Kirmani has made it clear that the PML-N wouldn’t strike any deal with those who had betrayed and plundered the people of Azad Kashmir and in habit of changing loyalties.

 

Explosives recovered in Hangu

KALAYA: The law enforcers on Wednesday recovered huge cache of explosives material buried underground in Tall tehsil of Hangu district, official sources said. The sources said that the law enforcers were informed that the miscreants had buried explosives underground in the mountains in Dar Samand area.  The terrorists had dumped the explosives for carrying out sabotage acts.

Four proclaimed absconders arrested

NAWABSHAH: Police said they arrested four accused, who had been declared proclaimed offenders by the Anti-terrorist Court, Nawabshah. They were wanted in arson case of police check post and a double cabin private car. Police said the action was initiated on the instructions of Inspector General Police Sindh.  The police said the accused had set on fire a police check post situated in Manuabad area and a double cabin vehicle parket at that time in the police post. The criminals were identified as Abdul Rasheed, Mama Asghar, Ata Khwaja and Abdul Ghaffar and were booked under Anti-terrorist Act and case was submitted in the ATC. 

 

‘Faith healer’ tortures girl to death

SUKKUR: A girl who had been under the supervision of a so-called “faith-healer” died of torture the “faith-healer” had subjected her to in the name of treating her “mysterious symptoms”.  The girl had apparently suffered from epileptic fits which her modest parents under the misguidance of the so-called faith healer equated with some mysterious phenomenon.  Wali Dad Rajpar, father of the victim girl, said that his daughter used to suffer from some “mysterious fits” leading to her losing her consciousness. She was entrusted in the care of the suspect, Abdul Kareem Khoso, in village Ameen Patto in Khairpur in order to get her cured.  Khoso tortured the girl and escaped. The girl remained unconscious for two weeks before she succumbed to her injuries.

 

Man awarded life sentence

SUKKUR: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday awarded life sentence to a man and confiscated his property in a kidnapping case in Larkana city. The court of Muhammad Riaz Rajput sentenced Bahadur Jalbani to life imprisonment. Meanwhile, an ATC court in Nausharoferoz also awarded life imprisonment to a man in a murder case.

 

Brothers killed in Sukkur

SUKKUR: Two brothers were killed in Shikarpur. Gul Muhammed and his brother, Muhammad Khan, died in a clash between two clans. Police shifted their bodies to a Shikarpur hospital and were conducting raids for the arrest of the killers.  

 

Two suffocated to death

SUKKUR: Two brothers suffocated to death in a coalmine in Khanot. Reports said that Hussain Bakhash and Illahi Bakhash Junejo, residents of Sanghar, died of suffocation in the coalmine they had been working in. The administration of the coalmine took two hours to recover the bodies of the brothers from the mine.

 

Man commits suicide

SUKKUR: A man shot and injured his son and then committed suicide in Sanghar. Reports said that the man had had a dispute with his son over a property. The son survived the gunshot wounds.

SUKKUR: Police during 54 encounters killed two bandits, injured 13 and arrested 970 others wanted by the police in various heinous crimes in Larkana.

 

Iranian envoy meets Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Wednesday emphasized the need to further improve border monitoring and exchange of information system between Pakistan and Iran. He was talking to Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Mehdi Honardoost who called on him here. They discussed the bilateral ties and matters relating to security in the region. The minister said Pakistan and Iran were tied in decades long religious, social, cultural and political bonds and that nothing could come in way of brotherly Pak-Iran relations.

 

Man killed as oil tanker runs over car

NOWSHERA: A man was killed and two others sustained injuries when an oil tanker run over a car on the Grant Trunk Road near the Wapda Colony on Wednesday, police said.An injured, Naimatullah told the police that along with three friends Muhammad Arif and Khushal he had parked the car on the road side when an oil-tanker, on its way to Nowshera from Peshawar, run over it in Taru Jabba. Khushal died on the spot while Muhammad Arif and Naimatullah sustained injuries.

312 caught pilfering electricity: Fesco

JHANG: Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) Jhang division Deputy Manager (operations) Syed Saleem Shah Thursday said special task force caught 312 people stealing electricity and imposed Rs 1.9 million as surcharge so far in June.Chairing a meeting of AMOs of Fesco Jhang Division held to review recovery progress, Saleem directed the Fesco officials to gear up recovery drive besides early completion of billing process and ensure recovery before the end of June positively and correctly by utilising upgraded android phone meter reading technology.The meeting reviewed recovery progress of all eight sub-divisions of the Fesco Jhang Division.
