By-poll to PP-240 on October 7
Qaisrani’s wife awarded ticket to boost PML-N image
From Hasnain Qaisrani
DERA GHAZI KHAN: After losing two provincial seats in the recent by-election, the PML-N has now awarded the PP-240 ticket to Mrs Mir Badshah Qaisrani to boost the image of the party in the southern belt.
The nomination by the PML-N has surprised local office-bearers and demoralised the workers because they were demanding the ticket for Sardar Imam Bakhash Qaisrani who had faced Mir Badshah Qaisrani in the general elections. Observers believe that the decision to award the ticket to Shamoona Ambreen Qaisrani was taken by Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif to grab the seat in the October 7 by-election. PP-240 comprises around eight union councils of the rural as well as tribal belt, which include Kot Qaisrani, Tumman Qaisrani, Vehoa, Lakhani Fateh Khan, Tibbi Qaisrani, Raitra, Narri and Jallowali where local personalities have penetration among the masses. The political parties are helpless and bound to support these local personalities. The awarding of the ticket by the ruling party to Shamoona Ambreen Qaisrani is the latest example of such situation.
Sardar Mir Badshah Qaisrani had switched to the PPP and then to the JUI-F after failure in getting the PML-N ticket for NA-171 and PP-240. He was elected MPA after defeating the PML-N candidate Sardar Imam Bakhash Qaisrani and Sardar Iqbal Khan Qaisrani of the PTI. The by-elections were announced after Sardar Mir Badshah Qaisrani was disqualified on the orders of the Supreme Court. Mir Badshah had fielded his wife Shamoona Ambreen with the announcement to get the JUI-F ticket. Meanwhile, the PML-N leadership assigned the task to Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Sardar Sher Ali Gurchani and MNA Sardar Muhammad Amjad Farooq Khan Khosa to induct Shamoona Ambreen as the party candidate. Sardar Pervaiz Khan Gurchani, father of Sardar Sher Ali Gurchani and a relative of Sardar Mir Badshah Qaisrani, visited Kot Qaisrani and held meetings with Mir Badshah Qaisrani to motivate him.
Sources told The News that the PML-N leadership had directed the local MPs to grab the seat. The PML-N had failed to defend its two provincial seats left by high profile personalities - Mian Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa - in the by-election. Now Shamoona Ambreen of the PML-N will face independent candidates Khawaja Muhammad Dawood Sulemani, Sardar Ijazur Rehman Kheitran and seven others. Pundits believe that now it is an easy target for the PML-N because the PPP and the PTI have not fielded their candidates. The PML-N has failed to get even a single provincial seat, out of seven, in Dera Ghazi Khan. However, MPAs Sardar Javed Akhtar Lund, Sardar Muhammad Jamal Khan Leghari and Mehmood Qadir Leghari have joined the PML-N after their victory as independent candidates.
