ISLAMABAD: Additional Sessions Judge in Islamabad has awarded three-year imprisonment and imposed Rs25,000 fine on a man over the charge of blackmailing a woman by making a fake account on the Facebook. It is for the first time in Pakistan that an accused has been awarded this punishment on such kind of charge.
Though the Cyber Act was not enforced in Pakistan yet the accused was awarded sentence under the Electronic Transaction Act.According to BBC Urdu, the Cyber Crime Circle of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) said that a man, Amir Qayyum Janjua, who is a bus conductor, had made a fake account on the Facebook and held friendship with a girl who was studying in an international university in Islamabad. The FIA official said that both exchanged views with each other and Qayyum was adamant on marrying her. But the girl refused to marry him after knowing that he was a conductor.
Qayyum threatened her to place her objectionable pictures on Facebook if she did not marry him, but the girl did not take it seriously. According to the FIA official, the accused had pasted her objectionable pictures on Facebook and sent it to her relatives.
After that, the family of girl asked her to return home and an application was submitted to the FIA against the accused for legal action.The FIA, under sections 36 and 37 of Electronic Transaction Act, registered a case against the accused and arrested him. During investigations, the offence was proved and a challan was submitted before the court of Additional Sessions Judge who awarded him three-year jail and Rs25,000 fine.
