MIRANSHAH: Six people, suspected to be militants, were killed and four others were injured in a US drone attack on a house in the Karwanda village near the Manzarkhel area of Dattakhel sub-division in the North Waziristan Agency on Tuesday.
Security officials and tribal sources said the drone fired two missiles at an alleged compound of the militants in Dattakhel near the Afghan border.
“The drone fired two missiles at a house believed to be in the use of foreign militants. Six people were killed on the spot and four others suffered injuries,” a local tribesman told this correspondent on phone from the Dattakhel area.
Most of the residents in the border areas in Pakistan’s tribal areas are using Afghan cellular phones for communication as telephone system had been disrupted after Pakistani security forces launched Zarb-e-Azb last year against the militants in North Waziristan.
Security officials claimed having intercepted internal communication of the militants in which they confirmed the loss of six people in the drone strike.
Pleading anonymity, a security official said those killed and injured included local and foreign militants, believed to be Arab and Afghan nationals.
It was after a long time the drone carried out a missile strike in the North Waziristan tribal region where Pakistani forces launched a massive ground offensive two weeks ago against the local and foreign militants hiding in the remote and mountainous Shawal Valley of the volatile tribal region. The forces, while facing tough resistance from the militants, have cleared some areas of them and COAS General Raheel Sharif had last week visited the area and spent a whole day with the troops.
