This refers to the news report, ‘Pakistan becomes 18th largest world economy: Dar’ (April 20). What the able minister has failed to clarify is that our economy is fully supported from resources outside the country.
There are two sources that have sustained the economy: loans obtained from the World Bank, the IMF, the Asian Development Bank, largesse doled out by countries in the Middle East and remittances. The reaction in the Arab world to the joint parliamentary resolution tells us one thing: a country living on donations must do as the master ordains. No doubt Pakistan has the 18th biggest foreign supported economy.
