NOWSHERA: Federal Minister for Defence Pervez Khattak on Sunday said that opposition parties had no agenda for the welfare of people and they only wanted protection for their own leaders.

“Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) leaders have lost the trust of the people owing to their duplicity,” he said while addressing party joining gatherings at Jabba Daudzai and Akbarpura.

Sardar Khan and Iftikhar Khan along with scores of relatives and supporters announced joining the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

“A leader like Prime Minister Imran Khan can only stage successful sit-ins and hold mammoth public meetings while the rest are only holding a puppet show,” Pervez Khattak said, adding that the premier was the only honest leader, who has the capability to steer the country out of the prevailing crises.

He said that protecting the sanctity of Parliament was the equal responsibility of government and opposition parties so as to serve the masses in a better way. He criticised the PDM leaders, who claimed to be the champions of democracy but were now using undemocratic means to dislodge an elected government.

He said that all the national institutions and the government were on the same page and the opposition leaders should not opt for undemocratic means to oust an elected government.

He said that the opposition parties wanted to save its leaders, who were facing inquiries by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) for alleged corrupt practices.

He defended the NAB and rejected the opposition parties’ allegations that the anti-graft body was victimizing the rivals of the government.

Pervez Khattak said that the opposition was holding the protests to exert pressure on the government to withdraw the corruption cases against them.
