ISLAMABAD: The sub-committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Electoral Reforms Tuesday termed the electronic voting and bio-metric system feasible on technical basis but decided to review the financial impact of the electronic voting and bio-metric system for casting the votes.
The approval came in a meeting of the sub-committee held under the chair of Zahid Hamid. It was informed to the committee that price of machine for electronic voting is $500 and there would be need of around 300,000 machines for the electronic voting and bio-metric system. The sub-committee asked the Nadra chairman to review the machines for electronic vote and bio-metric system. It also asked the Nadra chairman to present a technical solution to keep the data secure and identity of voters secret while using the electronic voting method.
The committee proposed the verification of the voter data through off-line rather than online method. The sub-committee also decided to hold an experimental analysis of voice voting and postal ballot, and the report about comparison between voice vote and postal ballot will be presented to the committee within two weeks. The committee also decided to include the new chapter in law with regard to the role of Election Commission of Pakistan in the election process of the local governments.
