8,417 cases registered on violation of Section 144
LAHORE : Following the orders of Inspector General of Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir, action against hoarders and the violators of Section 144 is continuing in the province.
Since March 16; 8,417 cases on violation of Section 144 and 214 cases of hoarding have been registered. Police teams in all districts are strictly ensuring the implementation of instructions regarding containing coronavirus pandemic and hoarding issued by the Punjab government.
Police teams along with doctors are on the frontline and taking steps under the supervision of DPOs to prevent the citizens from coronavirus besides taking legal actions against hoarders.
According to the details, police teams established 1,371 pickets where 6,101 vehicles and 15,098 motorcycles were checked. Police checked 29,723 citizens and gave warning to 17,957 people. Security bonds were taken from 1,296 citizens. As many as 658 accused were arrested and 217 citizens were released on bail. Collectively, 395 FIRs were registered against 827 accused. Action was taken against 79 shops and eight restaurants.
Likewise, during the last 24 hours, 12 cases were registered against 20 accused hoarders. Six accused were arrested on violation of the law on hoarding.
Police teams also created awareness among 6,293 citizens and also provided assistance to 3,892 citizens.
It is worth mentioning here that since start of operation on March 16, collectively 214 cases have been registered under the laws on price control and hoarding and legal action was taken against 244 persons.
In the last 19 days, 8,417 FIRs were registered under Section 144 and 14,298 accused were arrested. As many as 193,599 citizens were given warning. Security bonds were taken from 13,052 citizens.
The IG stressed upon the regional and district police chiefs to speed up the action against the violators of laws and submit progress reports on crackdown to the Central Police Office on a daily basis.
gangs busted: Deputy Inspector General of Police Operations Wing Lahore Rai Babar Saeed has said police are striving to protect the citizens from the dangers of coronavirus besides controlling crime in the City. The Lahore Police Operations Wing issued its performance report of the month of March. According to the report, as many as 239 members of 94 gangs were arrested and an amount of more than Rs 15 million was recovered from them. During grand operation against illegal weapons, police arrested 483 criminals and seized 20 rifles, 3 Kalashnikovs, 15 guns, 5 daggers, 427 revolvers and pistols from their possession. More than 11 kg heroin, almost 181 kg charas, 15 gram ICE, more than 7 kg opium and 4,699 bottles of liquor were seized from 649 accused. An amount of more than Rs0.8 million was recovered from 431 accused during a crackdown on gamblers. Lahore police also arrested 106 accused during action against brothels. During campaign against proclaimed offenders (POs), police arrested 278 POs of A and B categories in cases of theft, cheque bounce, fraud and other crimes. Police also arrested 430 court absconders. As many as 2,574 persons were arrested for violation of the laws on wheelie, kite flying, firing, begging, price control, foreigners, tenants, marriages and loudspeaker use.
Meanwhile, DIG Operations Rai Babar Saeed said all the divisional SPs had been given special task to arrest the criminals involved in heinous crimes.
Special teams have been constituted to nab POs particularly the drug peddlers. He said that latest technology and all possible resources were being utilized along with introducing institutional reforms for prevention and control of crimes in the City.

As many as 98,372 citizens were checked at more than 202 pickets set up by Lahore police and more than 90,000 persons were stopped from their unnecessary movement and they were directed to go back to their homes on Saturday.
According to the details issued by a spokesman for Lahore police, as many as 1362 FIRs were registered on violation of Section 144 during the partial lockdown. As many as 48,410 motorcycles, 12,581 auto-rickshaws, 2,060 taxis, 14,624 cars and 4,421 other vehicles were stopped from movement in the City. Rai Babar Saeed has appeal to the citizens to cooperate with police and other law enforcement agencies and refrain from unnecessary movement in the City.
