Tom Cruise marks 40 years of 'Top Gun' with a special announcement
The first installment of 'Top Gun' was released in 1986
Tom Cruise is commemorating 4 decades of Top Gun in a heartfelt post.
The Mission Impossible actor took to his Instagram account to mark the 40th anniversary of the first installment Top Gun which was released in late 1980s.
In the celebratory post, the Hollywood action star and award-winning actor penned down a sweet note expressing his excitement as Top Gun and its sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, are back in theaters for one week for its milestone celebration.
"I’m excited to celebrate 40 years of Top Gun with you all. It’s so much fun to see these two films back on the big screen!" Tom wrote in the caption, along with a throwback snap of himself from the set of the first Top Gun.
It is pertinent to mention that a third film of the Top Gun franchise was confirmed last month, in which Tom will once again reprise his role.
Top Gun (1986) tells the story of a reckless fighter pilot, named Lieutenant Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (played by Tom Cruise), who got trained at the Navy's top school. However, his impulsive and cocky attitude put him at odds with other pilots.
Tom reprised his role in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, 36 years after the first film was released, in which he trains a new generation of pilots.
