Two injured as cops baton-charge cattle traders
KARAK: Two people sustained injuries when the police baton-charged cattle traders over the holding a weekly bazaar despite a ban on such activities in the wake of the coronavirus threat.
The traders pelted police with stones and in retaliation the police baton-charged them for offering resistance and not wrapping up the weekly cattle bazaar at Ahmadabad. Assistant Commissioner of Takht-i-Nusrati tehsil Pir Khalid Qayyum had banned the weekly cattle bazaar due to the growing concerns about the spread of coronavirus.
Despite the ban, the traders held the weekly cattle bazaar at Ahmadabad on Friday. On receiving information about it, Assistant Commissioner Pir Khalid Qayyum, Tehsil Municipal Officer and the station house officer of Takht-i-Nusrati Police Station rushed to the spot. They asked the traders to end the bazaar voluntarily, but they refused.
The refusal led to an exchange of hot words followed by stones throwing at the police personnel. One policeman was injured. This prompted the police to fire warning shots in the air and baton-charged the people. It left one trader injured.
