A man ended his life by setting himself on fire at his house in Orangi Town on Monday. According to police, 45-year-old Shahid was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital but he succumbed to his critical injuries.
The victim’s brother, Rashid, told the media that his brother was a rickshaw driver by profession and due to the financial crisis he was unable to return Rs35,000 which he borrowed from someone. He said Shahid often used to fight with his wife and other family members.
Police said the man ended his life due to poverty while an investigation was under way. On January 9, a poverty-stricken man committed suicide after being unable to provide warm clothing to his children during the harsh weather.
