Speedy justice
Seeking affordable and speedy justice has become a dream in Pakistan. There are more than two million cases pending at all levels of the courts. There are around 39,000 cases pending with the Supreme Court; 3,00,000 cases pending with the five high courts of the country and 1,900,000 cases pending with the subordinate judiciary of the four provinces and the federal capital. This clearly shows that there is something wrong with our judicial system. The immediate thing that comes into our mind regarding this pendency is that the number of the registered cases in such courts is higher than the available resources to dispose them of in due course of time.
In Pakistan, there isn’t a sufficient number of judges for the speedy disposal of all pending cases. The same is the case for their sitting arrangements, as there are no sufficient and proper buildings for them where they can sit and listen to these cases in a proper manner. Hence, there is a need to appoint the required number of judges for both lower and superior courts. Necessary and proper infrastructure should also be developed for these judges so that they are able to hear their cases in a proper manner. Only then we will start seeing quick disposal of cases; hence minimising pendency of the court cases, with each passing day.
