The ongoing summer vacations in the province have been extended by another two weeks by the Sindh Education and Literacy Department.
According to a notification issued on Tuesday, the summer break, which was scheduled to end on July 15, has now been extended till July 31. Through the notification, the education department has directed all private and public educational institutes to resume academic activities from August 1.
This year, the education department had announced an earlier start to summer vacations – May 14 instead of the usual June 1 date – in light of the ongoing heatwaves and the month of Ramadan, and had set July 16 as the end of the holidays.
However, earlier this month, education department secretary, Alia Shahid, had sent a summary to Caretaker Chief Minister Fazlur Rehman suggesting that the vacations be extended for another two weeks because the Election Commission of Pakistan had assigned teachers duties for the July 25 polls and hence they would be unable to report for work at schools. Moreover, as per the ECP’s plan, schools, colleges and other government-owned buildings will be used as polling stations on Election Day while polling staff will be stationed at polling stations for two days.
