There are around 11 million children who are trapped in child labour. Employment under the age of 14 is not permitted within the constitution and has also been outlawed under various labour laws. But these laws only seem to exist on paper. Extensive physical work has adversely affected the mental and physical growth of children. The tragic truth is that these children have no way out.
Extreme poverty and illiteracy are major factors that force people to engage their children in labour. The authorities concerned should take remedial measures to alleviate abject poverty so that parents can afford to meet their monthly expenses without sending their children to work.
