National Ranking Badminton gets under way today
ISLAMABAD: National Ranking Badminton will get under way at the Rodham Hall from Friday. Apart from hosts Islamabad, teams from Fata, AJK, Sindh, Punjab, KP. Army, SNGPL, NBP, PTCL and Police are competing in the event.
Over 150 male and female badminton players are to feature in the four different categories including men’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s singles and women doubles. Pervaiz Habib Butt, President Islamabad Badminton Association, is the the organising secretary of the event.
“We also plan to hold league in December January in order to popularise the game of badminton in the country. We want to get back on the track in sports where parallel bodies during the last few years have destroyed the grassroots. We have now introduced remedial measures which slowly but surely getting results,” said Secretary Pakistan Badminton Federation Wajid Ali.Wajid further said that Pakistan’s performance was not up to the mark in Commonwealth Games badminton event. However one of our girls had made it to last 16.
