KMC staff told to take steps to deal with expected heatwaves
Mayor Wasim Akhtar has directed the staffers of the Karachi Municipal Corporation (KMC) to ensure all precautionary arrangements to facilitate the citizens amid the rise in the temperature and expected heatwaves in the city.
Presiding over a meeting in his office on Tuesday, he said comprehensive arrangements should be made in all hospitals and clinics to deal with any heat stroke emergency. The mayor said that special wards had been established in the KMC hospitals for providing first aid to persons affected with heat stroke.
He urged the officers to create more awareness among the people about heat stroke and precautionary measures, adding that people should learn from past experiences and save precious lives during heatwaves in the city.
Akhter said that the city wardens director had been nominated as focal person for coordination among all the civic organisations in this regard and the Met department would also be contacted on a daily basis.
He said he would also visit heat stroke management centres to check their performance and to ensure the availability of all required facilities in there. He also appealed to the K-Electric to avoid loadshedding during the hot weather.
On this occasion, the head of the Voice of Karachi (VOK), Aamir Ghanchi, said that water coolers would be installed in all districts and the VOK would make all-out efforts to provide relief to the maximum number of citizens.
