LAHORE: Punjab Chief Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday said the silent majority had given its verdict in favour of PML-Nin Lodhran.

“The common man has defeated the owner of palaces and aeroplane in Lodhran. The multi-billionaire has been defeated and a common man Pir Iqbal who, lives among the masses, has won. An evil effort of trading conscience has remained unsuccessful in the past and nor will it succeed in the future,” said the PML-N acting president.

Expressing his utmost trust in his party’s parliament, Shahbaz said the PML-N would win the upcoming general elections. Addressing the PML-N’s Punjab Parliamentary Party meeting, he said Nawaz Sharif had made the party most popular party of the country with his hard work. “The PML-N is a representative party of the people in all the four provinces. The people will definitely reward the PML-N in general elections,” he noted.

The chief minister was warmly welcomed in the party meeting. He went to the seat of every assembly member and enthusiastically shook hand with them. Shahbaz said the development projects of PML-N had made the opponents politically dead. “The development projects were delayed due to the sit-ins of Imran Niazi. Imran Niazi has lied so much so that now he should constitute a party of liars. He has tried to deceive the nation by speaking lies on every occasion,” he added.

Provincial Minister for Law Rana Sanaullah presented a resolution in the Parliamentary party meeting which was approved unanimously. It congratulated Shahbaz on becoming the PML-N acting president and describing the decision of party quaid, Nawaz, to nominate Shahbaz as party president as a best step in favour of the people, the PML-N and the country.

On the other hand, Turkish Ambassador Ishan Mustafa Yurdakul called on Shahbaz and congratulated him for assuming the office of PML-N president. Separately, the chief minister, in a message, congratulated the Hindu community on Holi and said people belonging to different minorities enjoy full religious liberty and protection.

“This festival symbolizes passions of life and promotes brotherhood among the people who share each others’ joys,” he said and added, “Pakistan belongs to all of us and all the citizens have equal constitutional rights.” In another message, the chief minister condemned the latest terrorist attack in Quetta and expressed deep sense of sorrow over the martyrdom of two police officials.
