Islamabad and Rawalpindi to face further water shortage
Islamabad: The residents living in various parts of Rawalpindi and some sectors of the federal capital will face further shortage of water due to reduction in supply from Khanpur Dam during the next two weeks.
According to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Khanpur Dam division has curtailed water supply due to annual de-silting, cleaning and maintenance work of left bank canal of the dam starting from Wednesday.
The de-silting of the left bank canal would be carried out till 10th of February due to which the water supply would be curtailed till February 12. An official of CDA said that the water supply from Khanpur Dam would be reduced from 8 million gallons per day (MGDs) to 3 MGDs. The sectors including G-10, G-11 and G-13 would face water shortage during these days.
The federal capital is already experiencing water-rationing to dry spell as a result of which the supply has been reduced from 34 MGDs to 19 MGDs. The same is the situation in case of water supply from tube-wells.
The civic body has requested residents of the city to remain calculated in use of water during the said period and in case of water shortage residents may call CDA Water Tanker Service. The residents of Rawalpindi would suffer the most for which the water supply has been reduced from 12 MGDs to 4 MGDs. Due to reduced water supply, the areas like Muslim Town, Pirwadhai, Sadiqabad, Iqbal Town and Shamsabad would face shortage of water.
In the meantime, the Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) of Rawalpindi has miserably failed in checking wastage of water by residents of the metropolitan particularly those living in posh areas like Satellite Town.
