LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday sought personal appearance of Evacuee Trust Property Board Chairman Siddiqul Farooq in a petition challenging alleged demolition of a gurudwara in Sahiwal.
Narinder Singh had filed a petition pleading that the ETPB was going to demolish Guru Singh Sabha Gurdwara of Sahiwal to build a commercial area. The petitioner’s counsel pointed out that tbe Section 4 of Evacuee Trust Properties (Management & Disposal) Act 1975 did not allow the government to acquire worship places of the Sikh community.
He said the board had illegally acquired the land of the gurdwara to build a commercial building. He asked the court to order the ETPB to restore the property of the gurdwara to its original position.
