NAB summons PU ex-VC’s wife in her appointment case

LAHORE: National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Lahore has summoned Associate Professor Shazia Qureshi, wife of Punjab University's former vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran, for December 4 to record her statement regarding her appointment, The News has learnt.
According to a notice issued to Ms Shazia on November 23, the Bureau has asked her to appear before the Deputy Director IW-III of NAB named Iqbal Hassan on December 4 as investigations against her husband and other PU officials are underway.
“Whereas the competent authority has taken cognizance of an offence committed by Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran and other PU officials under the provision of NAB Ordinance 1999, during inquiry it has revealed that you are in possession of information/evidence whatsoever, which relates to the commission of said offence”, notice to Shazia reads. The Bureau has asked the wife of Mujahid Kamran to appear before the NAB investigator at 10am. Questions regarding her appointment as associate professor at PU will be asked.
“You are advised that filing to comply with this notice, may entail penal consequences as provided in S.2 of the schedule of NAO 1999”, the summon notice further reads. In December 2016, Dr Mujahid Kamran was removed from the post on the orders of Lahore High Court (LHC) after about nine years when he had enjoyed two terms as VC and was on extension for a third time. The National Accountability Bureau is investigating the former Punjab University VC for his alleged role in illegal appointments made during his tenure.

According to Deputy Director, the FIA team raided Hajvairy Sweet Shop situated at Kot Abdul Malik, Lahore, where a direct phase circuit within the meter was used for electricity theft.
