Shahbaz reviews progress in Ujala programme; directs speedy implementation of Saaf Pani scheme

‘20,000 schools to be converted to solar power’

LAHORE

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that the Khadam-e-Punjab Ujala Programme has been introduced to convert 20,000 schools of the province on solar power and this is the first programme of its kind in Pakistan.

He presided over a meeting here Wednesday to review progress in Khadam-e-Punjab Ujala Programme aimed at converting schools on solar power. He said  that under the programme, more than 15,000 schools of South Punjab would be provided with solar power through panels.

Shahbaz Sharif said that this was the splendid programme with regard to provision of facilities for equipping the children with education and it would have to be forwarded at fast speed. He said all possible resources would be provided to educate the youth.

The chief minister was informed during briefing that work of survey of schools for implementing the programme had been completed. Punjab Schools Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmed, Provincial Minister Ayesha Ghaus Pasha, Adviser Dr Umer Saif, chief secretary and other officers concerned were also present.

Meanwhile, Shahbaz Sharif presided over a meeting here on Wednesday to review progress in various aspects of the Saaf Pani Programme. Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said Saaf Pani Programme was the vital project and there was no room for mistake and delay in its implementation.

He said the programme would be implemented in the first phase in 37 tehils of South Punjab. He directed its speedy and quality implementation. He said a steering committee had been formed to review progress in the programme while the board of the Punjab Saaf Pani Company was also independent, therefore, speedy measures should be taken for its implementation.
