Pak Railways, Bestway Cement ink MoU

LAHORE: Pakistan Railways (PR) and Bestway Cement Company have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the transportation of coal, a statement said on Saturday.

“The railway administration is working day and night to provide best facilities to passengers and increase its profitability with a keen focus on freight sector,” said the federal minister for railways, Khwaja Saad Rafique, who oversaw the signing ceremony held at Pakistan Railways Headquarters here.

The agreement was undersigned by Pakistan Railways’ chief marketing manager Abdul Hameed Razi and Bestway Cement Company’s senior marketing manager Syed Kamran Faisal.

Under the MoU, coal would be transported from Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and Bin Qasim Railway Station to Usman Khattar and Pind Dadan Khan railway station.

Initially, the tenure of the MoU will be for six months, which could be further extended by six months. As per the MoU, Bestway Cement would deposit Rs150 million in Pakistan Railways account under the head of the FDA.

Every month, 14,000 tonnes of coal would be transported from Port Muhammad Bin Qasim and Bin Qasim Railway station to Usman Khattar railway station while approximately 6,000 tonnes of coal would be transported to Pind Dadan Khan Railways Station.  Loading and unloading of the commodity would be the responsibility of the cement company.
