Two workers die in gas cylinder blast in factory

LAHORE

Two people were killed when a gas cylinder exploded in a factory at Jiabugga, Raiwind, on Sunday.

According to rescue sources, a fire erupted due to a gas cylinder blast which turned into inferno in no time, engulfing the factory. The gas cylinder exploded with a bang due to leakage, leaving two people, identified as Naveed Ahmad and Naved Abdul Rasheed, hailing from Raiwind and Peshawar, respectively, dead on the spot. Another person, yet to be identified, sustained critical injuries. He was admitted to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical. The bodies have been removed to morgue.

Woman killed: A 25-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead by her former fiancé in the Hadyara police area on Sunday. Police said the accused killer, Asif, nursed grudge against his fiancé Sadiqa Bibi who had refused to marry him and broken her engagement with him. Locals caught the accused and handed him over to police. The body has been shifted to mortuary and a murder case registered.

Labourer dies: A 40-year-old labourer died when an under-construction house collapsed in the Qilla Gujjar Singh area on Sunday. Victim Sarwar, hailing from Pakpattan, along with other labourers was busy in routine construction work in an under-construction house when a portion of the house collapsed and landed on him. Rescuers removed him out of the debris and rushed him to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The body has been removed to morgue.

suspects arrested: Lahore police arrested at least 17 suspects in various parts of the City on Sunday. They were arrested after they failed to produce their identification documents. Police have shifted them to some undisclosed location for investigation.

quacks fined: Punjab Healthcare Commission heard 31 cases pertaining to quackery last week and fined Rs 506,000 to 20 quacks for operating illegal businesses whereas in seven other cases, authentic and registered clinics were permitted to operate after their adjuration. According to PHC on Sunday, nine cases were reported from Nankana Sahib, which were the highest among all districts. The commission has initiated its campaign against quackery in July last year, and till now, investigated more than 2800 cases and imposed fines worth Rs 23,356,000 besides closure of businesses and initiating proceedings as per various laws, including Criminal Procedure Code.

PHP: Punjab Highway Patrol claimed to have arrested 35 criminals, including 13 proclaimed offenders (POs). Besides the POs, PHP arrested seven accused and siezed 304 litre liquor, 220 grams charas, five pistol, two rifles and 62 bullets from their possession. PHP also reunited three children; Amanullah Ashraf, M Imran and M Ashir, with their parents.

Bootlegger: Police claimed to have arrested a bootlegger and seized 80 bottles of liquor from his possession at New Ravi Bridge police picket. The arrested accused was identified as Javed Masih. The SP Mujahid has announced commendation certificates for the police team.

Security: Security has been beefed up in the provincial metropolis in the wake of attack on the shrine of Hazrat Shah Noorani in Hub a day back. The CCPO has directed all the divisional SPs to further strengthen the security of shrines and their adjacent parking lots in their respective areas and allow the visitors to enter the premises after thorough checking. He directed the officers to tighten security at entry and exit points of the City, carry out combing operations and keep vigil on the suspects.
