civil administration; foremost duty of judiciary is to provide justice to people and it should not fear anything; calls for disposal of cases in six months

BAHAWALPUR: The chief justice of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has said it is high time that all the institutions talked to each other openly to resolve the issues facing the people.

Syed Masnoor Ali Shah made these remarks while inaugurating sesquicentennial celebrations of the LHC at Noor Mahal here on Saturday night.He said the LHC’s 150-year celebrations were aimed at making people know about the glorious judicial traditions and administering fair and speedy justice.

He said the Lahore High Court was the custodian of great and glorious judicial values and traditions to ensure the supremacy of law and to protect the fundamental rights of citizens. He emphasised the need to adhere to the highest standards of professionalism to ensure disposal of cases in six months time, which would bring solace to the people and help end their miseries. He said the foremost duty of the judiciary was to provide justice to the people and judges should not fear anything in this regard.

He said: “Right from 1866 starting as a Chief Court, the Lahore High Court has gone through a long journey and has completed 150 years glorious march towards the supremacy of law, which is vital to establishment of a stable, prosperous and just polity.”

CJ Mansoor Ali Shah said that the prime function of the courts was to mobilise all available resources with dedication and commitment to quicken the pace of administering justice to the people, which would end their miseries and it would further enhance the grace and glory of the judicial organ of the state.

He said that effective, constructive and dedicated role of all stakeholders, including the judiciary, bar, and civil administration, was vital and, therefore, effective coordination among them was of paramount importance. He appreciated the Lahore High Court Bar for its constructive role in administering justice to the people.

Justice Mansoor Ali ordered the reconstruction of the Lahore High Court Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association building in the next 15 days. He also appointed Senior Justice Shahid Hameed Dar as the chairman of the committee to supervise the construction work. He further ordered that all development work of the Lahore High Court would remain suspended till the completion of the project, which was vital to protect lives of the members of the Lahore High Court, Bahawalpur Bench Bar Association.
