'Euphoria' star shares blunt truth about show ahead of season 3 release
Star explains the reason for walking away from 'Euphoria' in 2022
Season three of Euphoria is arguably the most anticipated series of this year. The main cast is returning for the new phase, but a key star is missing.
She is Barbie Ferreira, who portrayed fans' favourite Kate Hernandez.
Though back in 2022, the actress announced her decision to quit the show on Instagram.
“After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character, Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye," her emotional post on social media read at the time.
"I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her, and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.”
However, now she is weighing in on her abrupt exit, getting candid regarding her reasons for walking away from the smash-hit show.
Ferreria, in an interview with Deadline, shares that at the time, her role in Euphoria made her feel she was not able to show her full acting range.
"It just felt like for me, what I wanted to do is act and be able to do different roles, and if Euphoria was going to serve that for me, I would have happily done it forever, however long it would have been."
“But it wasn’t really letting me show my range. In fact, it was kind of diminishing as time went on, and it was like, what makes me happy is acting and growing my career.”
Ferreira, then, in a brutally candid manner, states that for her, fulfillment of her creativity inside her is more important than starring in a globally hit show – seemingly referring to Euphoria – which does not fulfill her creativity.
“So, it just felt like a very personal decision where I, really deep down, don’t care if what I’m doing is the biggest show of all time, as long as I’m creatively fulfilled. It’s truly all that I care about.”
After exiting Euphoria, Ferreira starred in several projects; the latest is a romantic comedy titled Mile End Kicks, which will roll out in theatres on April 17.
