Shahbaz orders finalisation of Saaf Pani project agreement

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has directed that agreements with selected companies should be given a final shape at the earliest in a transparent manner for the “Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme” and training should be imparted to newly-appointed technical and other staff.

He presided over a meeting here Sunday which reviewed progress of different matters of the programme for provision of clean drinking water to the masses.

Addressing the meeting, the chief minister said that potable water was not only basic right of the citizens but their need as well and billions of rupees had been allocated for the implementation of “Khadim-e-Punjab Saaf Pani Programme”. He said the programme was directly linked to human health and with the provision of clean drinking water people would get rid of diseases spreading due to polluted water. He said that work would have to be carried out in a professional manner to forward this public welfare programme speedily. Shahbaz Sharif said that resources were a trust of the nation and clean drinking water programme was a project of spending resources on the masses, which would be moved ahead speedily.

The chief minister said a comprehensive system should be evolved with the help of information technology for implementing and monitoring the programme. He said no compromise would be made on quality and speed and pre-shipment and post-shipment inspection would be compulsory for ensuring quality.

German Consultant Franz De Carne gave a briefing regarding important matters of implementation of the programme. Provincial Minister for Housing Tanvir Aslam Malik, Chairman Punjab Saaf Pani Company South MPA Muhammad Kashif, chief secretary, Planning & Development Chairman, secretary housing, Chief Executive Punjab Saaf Pani South Punjab and the officials concerned attended the meeting.
