ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice (retd) Sardar Muhammad Raza Khan has written a letter to the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif expressing his profound gratitude over the peaceful conclusion of the tensely-contested by-elections in Punjab on October 11.
It has been written in the letter that after agreeing to the requisition of troops, the Pakistan Army assisted the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) in fulfilling its constitutional obligation to hold honest, just and fair elections in an effective manner.
Expressing his pleasure over the well-organised performance of the Pakistan Army, the chief election commissioner added that the way the army officers and the Jawans came out with flying colours in the conduct of the by-polls was, no doubt, a matter of great satisfaction for the ECP and the whole nation. He said there was no denying the fact that professionalism and devotion to duty were the hallmarks of the Pakistan Army and of course it was an apt reflection of the institution and its courageous leadership.
The CEC, therefore, asked the army chief to convey his heartfelt feelings to the office of the Director General Military Operations and all the concerned formations for making foolproof arrangements. He also prayed for the success of the Pakistan Army and the army chief in all endeavours and victory against all challenges.
