Worker dies as factory roof collapses

LAHORE

A 40-year-old worker died and another received injuries in an incident of roof collapse of a factory in Nawab Town on Monday.

Edhi Officials said roof of a factory collapsed because it was in a dilapidated condition. As a result, two workers were stranded under the debris. Nearby people started removing debris and informed rescue teams and Edhi officials who reached the spot, removed debris and admitted the victims in hospital where doctors pronounced Zulfiqar dead. Police removed the body to morgue. The victim was a resident of Niazi Adda and survived by a widow and two children.

Emergency Services: The Pakistan Navy’s Station Commander Lahore Commodore SM Shahzad (SI) Military, during a motivational talk with under training cadets here at Emergency Services Academy said that being the sons of the soil we have to rescue Pakistan through dedication, determination and visible objectives ahead.

He said that Rescuers are earning their livelihood and at the same time doing the service by rescuing the emergency victims in all kinds of disasters. He said that performance of Rescue 1122 in Punjab showed praise-worthy training standards here in this training institute.

He visited Emergency Services Academy on Monday and held a detailed meeting with Director General Brig (r) Amir Hamza and assured him of full support from Pakistan Navy regarding technical expertise and flood management skills for Disaster Response Force of Rescue 1122 in future. He said the both sister organisations shall work shoulder-to-shoulder during upcoming disasters, including floods, earthquakes, fires and other disasters.

Earlier, during his welcome address, Director General Brig. (r) Amir Hamza said that no doubt, Pakistan Navy is integral part of Pakistan’s Armed Forces as the role of Pak Navy either to control Exclusive Economic Zone or deal with natural calamities was praise-worthy.

He was briefed that this training institute was unique in SAARC region and has become a National Centre of Excellence because of providing free-of-cost training to the cadets of other provinces, including KP, GB, AJK, Balochistan and Sindh. He lauded three decades long meritorious services of SM Shahzad in Pakistan Navy.

The Commodore Pak Navy said he was happy to know that Rescuers were ready to respond in desert and floods to achieve their goal and destination of safeguarding the people of Pakistan. He asked them “to compete with yourself, discover yourselves” as they have unseen enemy like fires, building collapses and other emergencies.

The Commodore SM Shahzad asked Rescue cadets to carry out their legacy of professionalism through excellence during their training and in the field. Before his departure, he also planted a sapling in the academy.
