security: Child Rights Movement (CRM), an alliance of 300 civil society organisations, on Wednesday urged the government, parents, teachers and care givers to pay special attention to the security of girls.

The CRM alliance took serious note of rise in crimes against teenage girls in the country. A statement issued by alliance on Wednesday, the alliance termed it tragic that two girls became a victim of kidnapping, black mailing and rape, on the eve of Independence Day at two separate places.

One of the girls asked for a lift to reach home early. The driver, instead of taking the girl to her home, took her to a place where three men raped her consecutively and threw her at bus terminal in Mansehra. The three men have been arrested and a FIR has been launched.

In the second incident, a mobile team of the police upon the hue and cry of a teenage reached the spot. What followed was a teenage girl pleading a young man not to upload obscene images on social media websites. If the mobile police had not arrived to rescue, the young man would have shot her with a pistol. Both the cases have been registered against the culprits.

The statement says that menace of crime against teenage girls needs prompt and affirmative action by all the strata of the society. “The onus of responsibility for the protection of the girls falls with parents, care givers and teachers. It is the need of the hour that the teenage girls should be given the basics sense of self-protection. Parents and school authorities should also ensure that those who pick their children are responsible for the safety and security of the girls,” mentions the statement.
