As part of celebrations for the independence of Pakistan, K-Electric (KE) has pledged to plant 100,000 trees for a greener Pakistan.

This was shared at a tree plantation drive at SOS Village where the children of the village, along with the KE Employees and Management, planted trees together.

KE has already planted 55,000 trees in different parts of the city and will plant another 45,000 by December 2016, said a statement issued by the city’s power utility.

KE’s volunteering employees with the children of SOS Village planted 50 saplings of an indigenous variety in the vicinity of the welfare community. Celebrations included singing national songs, a musical performance and face painting.

Speaking about the initiative, a K-Electric spokesperson stated, “This Independence Day, we have reinforced our passion for Pakistan through this pledge to plant trees. We are here today to educate young minds about the benefits of conserving the environment we live in and celebrating the spirit of Independence with the Children of SOS village.”

Prior to this event, the power utility also initiated a social media campaign encouraging people to contribute to a greener Pakistan. The utility has committed itself to plant a tree for every citizen who shares an image of him or her planting a tree with the #plantforPakistan on social media.
